The first proposal mistakes that cost freelancers replies
Three common proposal habits that make good freelancers look generic.
Most freelancers lose replies before the client understands their ability. The issue is usually not skill. It is that the proposal reads like it could have been sent to any job.
Mistake 1: opening with your bio
Clients care about their problem first. Start by naming the specific outcome they asked for, then connect your experience to that outcome.
Mistake 2: using proof that does not match
Relevant proof is narrow. If the job is about onboarding conversion, talk about funnel work, speed, analytics, or signup behavior. A broad portfolio claim does less work.
Mistake 3: ending with a vague CTA
Do not end with "let me know." Ask one question about timeline, tools, blockers, or success metrics. A clear question makes replying easy.
